Roman Experience

Art, Architecture, and Engineering in Rome, Italy

It started with 15 classes each Wednesday night. We discussed the engineering plans of arches, the different styles of columns, and the mosaics and frescoes decorating the entirety of some buildings. Months later, I was on a plane to Rome! We visited the beautiful city of Naples, taking a tour of Pompeii and Herculaneum. We made our way back to Rome to see the Domus Aurea, the Colosseum, Vatican City, the Baths of Caracalla, and so many Basilicas, I lost count.

Throughout the experience I learned more about the work that went into the sculpting and building of the cities in Italy. I learned of the artists and their dictation to the work they completed. I learned how great pasta and pizza is in its true form.

Reflecting back on this experience, the dedication to work really impacted me. I feel as though everything is happening so fast in the city of Cincinnati, that it was astonishing to see sculptures and buildings that must have taken years to complete. It allowed me to appreciate the time and effort people dedicate to their work because people are still appreciating it today.
