ROAR Tour Guides

University of Cincinnati, Cincinnati, Ohio

Being a ROAR Tour Guide has been one of my favorite ways to be involved at the University of Cincinnati. I give tours to prospective students and their families, answer questions, and share what my experience has been like as an engineering student. Every tour is different because every family is looking for something different, so I have learned how to connect with people from all kinds of backgrounds.

One thing I have realized is that something as simple as a conversation can make a big difference. I remember how overwhelming college visits felt when I was choosing a school, so I try to be someone who makes students feel welcome and excited instead of intimidated. I enjoy hearing where people are from, what they want to study, and what they are hoping to find in a college.

This experience has changed how I think about being a Global Citizen Scholar. I used to think it mostly meant traveling to different countries, but now I think it also means learning from the people you meet every day. Everyone brings different experiences and perspectives, and taking the time to listen and make someone feel like they belong is just as important as learning about another culture.
