Camp Whitewood Counselor

Being a Counselor

I have served as a camp counselor at 4-H Camp Whitewood for four years. Throughout these years, I have participated in weekly meetings, where I learned to plan activities from start to finish, handle homesickness, and take abuse training. Through training, I have gotten to know myself better and become the leader I am today. I used to be super shy and reserved, but now I say hi to almost everyone I meet because you never know what kind of story they might have in their back pocket. It is also super important that the campers are put first and prioritized. I believe this is a major skill to have gained at a young age. Camp is "For the Campers" (FTC).

With camp, comes some major activities. Everyday we participated in boating, swimming,, nature, crafts, and shooting sports. Night activities include sleep under the stars, the PB and J race, Camp Fire, walking to the River, the Dance, Counselor Hunt, and the camp favorite, Magi. If you have any questions about my experiences feel free to reach out!

Years as a Counselor

2019-2022

What I Learned

I learned what it means to be a part of a team, and the importance of working with others to accomplish a goal. I learned how to manage children and plan large scale activities for youth. I also learned the best way to put on a frozen t-shirt, make candles, and create a dog circle.

How I was Impacted

I look for teams and organizations with family complexes because when I work with other people I learn so much more, whether it is about the topic at hand or their experiences.
